Dear ODPC Kids Families,

Thoughts have such power over our hearts and minds.  We know that God tells us to think on whatever is true, noble, right, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8) but how do we do that in the midst of all the things going on today that are the complete opposite of good?!  Can I be honest with you and let you know that this takes practice, lots of practice!  Here are some small things that you can do with your children to help them think on the good things:

  1. Encourage them to be on the lookout for God sightings, things that God is doing all the time all around them to show His great love.  In the great wise words of Pooh, “there’s always time for a smackeral of wonder.”
  2. Encourage them to be God sightings for others, (yes, even their own siblings or family members!)
  3. Keep track of these God sightings by making it a game to see who can find and report the most by the end of each day.

This pause due to the COVID-19 virus that everyone has been forced to accommodate can also mean that you have more intentional moments with your children.  I encourage you to take advantage of these small moments to look for and help your children actually be on the search for good.  Take a walk together, go collect shells on the beach, swing and slide, color a picture, watch a funny movie, or play a game.  It may surprise you to know that these things are just as important (I think more important) as any of the special activities, vacations, or trips that you may go on.  These small moments are very often the ones that will make the memories that your children will carry with them for the rest of their lives.  In fact, you can even become a part of the good things that your children can focus their attention on today.

Please know that you are all continually in my thoughts and prayers.
